Concurrent with the opening ceremony of this year’s Triennial at the Zhejiang Art Museum, there will also be a number of related exhibitions. Shi Hui, the Chief Curator of the Curatorial team, will open her solo exhibition Matter and Mind at the Gallery of the China Academy of Art (CAA) during the afternoon of the 20th of September. There will also be a group exhibition by young artists from the CAA’s studio of fiber and spatial art for visitors to see.
Visitors to the Triennial are welcome to attend both exhibitions. On Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of September, the International Symposium for the Fiber Art Triennial will take place. Invited speakers are a number of artists, theorists, curators, writers and theorists from around the globe, including Sarah Quinton, Senior curator at the Museum of Textiles, Toronto, Canadian ; Linda Worbin, Professor of the Swedish School of Textiles, Boras; Giselle Eberhard Cotton, Vice Chair of the Fondation Toms Pauli in Lausanne, Switzerland, Shi Hui, Professor at China Academy of Art and Hung Jian; Professor of the China Academy of Art and Michal Jachula, an independent curator from Poland whose recent exhibition on the Splendour of Polish Textiles at the Zacheta Gallery in Warsaw has been met with great acclaim. Panel presentations and cross cultural dialogue will be held held between the following artists :Lucy Orta (France/Belgium/UK), Seamus McGuinnes (Ireland), Rakhi Peswani (India)and Liang Shaoji (China). Sessions will be moderated by Simon Kirby from the Victoria Miro Gallery. Time to Breathe, a film by Maria Nepomuceno will also be shown with permission from the British Council (Brazil) and Turner Contemporary (UK). The symposium has been organized by member of the curatorial committee, Janis Jefferies, Professor of Visual Arts, Goldsmiths, London, UK in consultation with Gao Shiming, Professor of the China Academy of Art .
