The Latest News Of Hangzhou Triennial Of Fiber Art

 

Preparations for the Inaugural Hangzhou Triennial of Fiber Art are already entering the final stages. Preliminary surveys by artists from around the world have been made and are now completed.  Artists who are scheduled to complete residencies in Hangzhou have also been confirmed. 

Apart from inviting artists to attend this year’s Triennial, Applications were made also some of the most significant museums and galleries from around the world, requesting loans for certain key works.  

Three works have been sent on loan by TATE (London, UK); Magdalena Abakanowicz’s Abakan Red and – Orange in addtion to Yinka Shonibare MBE, The Swing.   Shonibare MBE’s photographic work has been borrowed from the James Cohan Gallery in Shanghai.  London’s Victoria Miro Gallery has provided tapestry and fiber related work from British artist Grayson Perry, Brazilian artist Maria Nepomuceno and American artist Christian Holstad  Rhona Hoffman Gallery in Chicago and Tasmen Green Gallery in New York have respectively assisted in loaning works from Anne Wilson and Nick Cave. From Muzeum Narodowe w Poznaniu (Poland)  a key work by Ursula Plewka Schmidt and from Zagreb Museum a large scale work from Jagoda Buic. 

Works for the exhibition will arrive between August and early September allowing for the Zhejiang Art Museum and China Silk Museum to begin installing over 140 pieces of historical, experimental and innovative fiber based work appropriate to the main theme of the Triennial, FIBER VISIONS.
